Loftus Ward Update

During the month of July, Loftus ward received 43 reports of crime and 12 reports of Anti Social Behaviour. Both figures for crime and anti social behaviour are positive in the fact that they show a decrease on both the previous months figures and this time period last year. That does not take away from the fact I recognise we have victims of crime and anti social behaviour. We will focus on these victims in the coming months.

No burglaries have been reported throughout the month and only 1 of the anti social behaviour reports were youth related. The remaining reports were in relation to neighbour disputes, adult altercations and nuisance vehicles.

In the run up to the summer holidays PCSO’s attended the primary schools within Loftus to conduct school assemblies and give reminders (adapted to be age appropriate) to address anti social behaviour and being respectful within the community, combined with staying safe. We also discussed online safety, misuse of technology / social media and stranger danger. Anti Social Behaviour patrols remain a priority during shifts throughout the summer holiday period.

An Acceptable Behaviour Agreement (ABA) has been issued to a youth within Loftus as a result of being issued a number of AS13’s previously. An ABA is the next step and is issued by the Anti Social Behaviour Officer within Redcar and Cleveland Council. The agreement remains in place for 6 months and contains conditions that must be adhered to. To date the youth has not come to further Police attention since the ABA was served and this is positive news.

The following are examples of the ongoing work by the Neighbourhood Police Officers within the team.

A suspect was interviewed in relation to criminal damage at a property on Larch Court, however due to insufficient evidence this was concluded and no further action was taken.

A passing police patrol were directed by two members of the public towards two individuals who had left a local store with a basket full of goods without paying for them. The goods were returned to the store but no action was taken against the offenders as the shop declined to make a complaint. Both suspects were subsequently banned from the store.

One male was arrested and charged with an offence of burglary to a residential property reported in July.

A male has been located, arrested and remanded in custody in relation to numerous shop thefts with Loftus and surrounding areas.
